NRA FIRST Steps Orientation

  This is a model specific course that includes TPI, Total Participant Involvement.  With this, you have your pistol right in front of you.  The goal of FIRST Steps is to provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a specific pistol model safely. This is a 4 hour class, range time is included.


FIRST stands for: Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training.
Lessons that will be covered are:

  • Introduction to Pistol Safety, Parts, and Operation
  • Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  • Introcuction to Pistol Shooting from the Benchrest Position
  • Introduction to Pistol Cleaning, Storage and Training Opportunities

Materials that you will receive are:

  • NRA Guide to the Basicis of Pistol Shooting handbook
  • NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure
  • NRA Basic Firearm Training Program brochure
  • Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualifiction Program booklet

At the completion of this course you will receive the NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation Completion Certificate.

We also offer you the opportunity that once you have completed this course and you purchase a new
handgun, you may take the class again free of charge to familiarize yourself with that handgun.  You
will not receive new materials or a Completion Certificate.  Please let us know in advance if you wish
to attend.
